SEO – Search Engine Optimization is one of those strategies that have been so hyper over time that it even sounds old. The thing is it is never going to be old as it is a very essential fabric of any website that wants to be found online.

Are there websites that are built without SEO? There challenge this poses for the website is getting found online through organic or natural searches.

For such a website, you would have to be knowing the URL to access it. This limits the number of visitors to the website and also diminishes effectiveness of such a website as a marketing tool online.

Misconceptions about SEO

SEO is greatly misunderstood, often taunted as the magic pill to instant success online. I have had instances where a client wants instant results from their newly created website and is not willing to be enlightened on the workings of SEO. This has made me develop a different approach when pitching for an SEO job, so that I can manage my clients expectations inline with the time frame on which they should expect to see value from their SEO Campaign.

Other misconceptions include:-

  • Quick fix:there is no quick fix solution with an SEO campaign, doing it right takes time anything from 6 months then you should start seeing on effects of your efforts in SEO.
  • Just for a time:- SEO is not a one hit wonder,It has to be a continuous process for as long as you want your website to remain relevant.
  • It is easy: -I can tell you for free, SEO is not easy…actually there is nothing remotely easy about it. The best way to ensure that your website is growing continuously, to be created content religiously. Be very deliberate about employing a publishing policy so that there is consistency in posting articles or other types of content on the website.
  • Hire me!!! I am an SEO Expert: – It is a continuous learning process, there is always something new to learn and anyone who tell you they already have  PHD in SEO be very wary.

So what do you need to know about SEO as a new website owner?
